Liz Carter joined the Foundation as president and CEO in 2015. She is a champion of journalistic excellence and oversees the Foundation’s investment in local non-profits across the country, including those in Cincinnati, home to The E.W. Scripps Company.
Carter received a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Louisville. She worked as a reporter from 1995-1999 and as a non-profit chief executive from 1999 until joining the Foundation.
Mike Canan is the Director of Journalism Strategies for the Scripps Howard Foundation. Mike has led digital, print and broadcast newsrooms for 15 years. Mike began his career with the E.W. Scripps Company in 2002 at Scripps Howard News Service in Washington, D.C. After two years as a copy editor there, he moved to Florida where he worked in a variety of roles over 10 years at Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers. Mike’s last three years at the newspaper chain he served as managing editor, running the day-to-day operations of the newsroom. In 2014, Mike moved to Cincinnati to become editor of WCPO.com, an innovative digital operation embedded inside the TV station. WCPO was the first (and so far only) local TV news station to offer a paid membership program and a paywall. In 2018, Mike joined the E.W. Scripps corporate team where he worked with 10-12 newsrooms within the company to advise them on their content strategies. In 2019, he returned to WCPO as news director, leading both the digital and broadcast teams. In September 2021, he joined the Scripps Howard Foundation. Mike lives in Cincinnati with his wife, Hillary, and sons, Rhys and Wes.
Meredith Delaney has served as Director of Philanthropic Strategies since December 2017 and brings with her a decade of experience in fundraising and non-profit industries. She oversees charitable giving for the Scripps and Howard family members, E.W. Scripps employees, retirees and others.
Delaney received a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the Reed College of Media at West Virginia University and a master’s degree in Communication from the University of Cincinnati.
Carrie joined the foundation team in 2020 as the Director of Support Services. She leads the support services team as they provide administrative assistance in the day to day operations of the Scripps Howard Foundation. Prior to joining the foundation, Carrie worked for over a decade in higher education administration support roles. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Lincoln Christian University in Bi-vocational Missions with a focus on youth and the arts.
Linda Morgan joined the Foundation as Director of Program Management in 2018. She is responsible for project planning and reporting for the Foundation’s largest initiatives.
Morgan has experience in operations management and program leadership primarily in the financial services industry. Most recently, she spent five years with the Program Management Office (PMO) for the E.W. Scripps Company where she supported large projects for several lines of business. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the University of Wyoming.
Casey joined the Foundation in 2019. She has experience in corporate philanthropy, employee engagement, volunteerism and community giving. Her passion is working with nonprofits and the local community to advance positive change. Casey’s interest and enthusiasm in childhood literacy comes from her love of reading, volunteering with youth and raising her three children. She just recently received a Master’s certificate in Philanthropic Studies from the Lilly School of Philanthropy. Casey holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio University and a MBA from Northern Kentucky University.
Natalie joined the foundation team in 2020 as support services specialist. She is responsible for accounts payable processing and tracking pledges and spending from various funds throughout the year. Previously, Natalie worked for a startup company in Cincinnati where she helped build procedures and drive sales. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
