In late 2022, the Reuters team published an exclusive report of animal abuse at Neuralink, which eventually led the reporters through a comprehensive investigation into the hidden, systemic problems within various Elon Musk companies. A unifying theme for the series was that of neglect, oversight, ignorance and hubris by U.S. regulators and the companies themselves. Musk’s companies caused suffering, sometimes death, of consumers, workers and lab animals. These companies continue to endanger employees and consumers.
Reuters staff exposed a variety of problems plaguing Neuralink, Tesla and SpaceX.
The team exclusively obtained internal staff complaints at Neuralink about rushed testing that led to animal welfare violations. The brain-chip start-up is under federal investigation for these violations.
At Tesla, the team’s reporting revealed the existence of a secret team designed to suppress thousands of driving complaints. Reuters brought to light Tesla’s long-time knowledge of defective parts. The company had long neglected to accept responsibility for these parts and instead chose to blame customers for abusing their vehicles.
At SpaceX, the Reuters team documented at least 600 previously unreported workplace injuries and the company’s reckless pursuit of success.
The Reuters staff brought to light the reality of Elon Musk’s manufacturing empire, exposing a pattern of dismissed concerns in favor of an error-riddled pursuit of success, a stark contrast to the billionaire’s braggadocious claims and overinflated promises.
