Morris named publisher of Kitsap Sun

March 15, 2013

Brent Morris, an experienced newspaper executive specializing in sales, digital development, and community and business publications, joins The E.W. Scripps Company as the publisher of the Kitsap Sun in Bremerton, Wash., effective March 18.

“This is a formative time at Scripps and in the newspaper industry,” said Tim Stautberg, senior vice president of newspapers. “Brent’s arrival is most advantageous for the company and for Bremerton and the surrounding communities. He has vast experience in both product development and sales. That combination will serve him well as he leads the Kitsap Sun team in delivering extensive and engaging content on multiple platforms to local consumers and compelling opportunities for advertisers to reach current and prospective customers.”

For the past three years Morris has been in a leadership role with Media General’s Northern Virginia Media Group, and most recently as regional publisher for World Media Enterprises, a Berkshire Hathaway Company. As regional publisher, he was responsible for a variety of print products and news websites appealing to niche audiences, including military and business communities.

In 2008 he was named vice president of the interactive division for the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, a division of MediaNews Group. He managed and directed all sales activities across nine regional community newspapers and their corresponding websites. He also has more than a decade of experience working for Gannett newspapers in classified sales, digital sales and digital product development. Three of those years he spent at The Olympian.

Morris has been involved in nonprofit organizations in each of the communities where he has lived and worked. In recent years he has served on several boards, including the regional board of the United Way in Northern Virginia. He actively seeks involvement through community development and growth initiatives with local chambers of commerce as well as military organizations.

He is a Washington native and an Army veteran.
