June 11, 2008

(Kansas City, Missouri)–  This year’s Missouri Broadcasters Association awards proved successful for NBC Action News, Kansas City’s Breaking News Leader.  KSHB-TV won four first place awards, more than any other Kansas City television station. The winning entries included:  Best Spot News for extensive coverage following the Greensburg, Kansas tornado; Best News Series for Room Disservice, an undercover investigation exposing dirty hotel drinking glasses; Best Investigative Reporting for a story profiling the dangers of internet hacking; Best Weathercast from NBC Action News Chief Meteorologist Gary Lezak.

“I was very excited to see NBC Action News recognized by the Missouri Broadcasters Association,” said KSHB News Director Rick Iler. “We have had a great year and this continues to show that our hard work is heading in the right direction.”  In all, NBC Action News took home seven MBA awards.

KSHB-TV also announced that Iler has been selected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA). Rick will serve as the Regional Director for Regions 4 and 5, which include Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

“I am pleased to be a part of such a prestigious organization,” Iler said. “RTNDA is the standard for teaching and services for the broadcast industry and I am honored to represent Regions 4 and 5.”

“Rick’s decision reflects his longtime support of RTNDA, and programs and services to help electronic journalists keep ethical journalism a high priority,” said RTNDA chairman Ed Esposito. “Rick is a wonderful addition to the Board of Directors at a time of transition and great challenges in our industry.”
