Mike Hales, 43, is vice president of audit and compliance for The E. W. Scripps Company.

Prior to assuming his current role, Mike served as the director of controls and compliance, where he oversaw the finance and IT Sarbanes-Oxley compliance efforts.

Before joining the Scripps corporate office in 1990, Mike served as director of finance for the Evansville Courier Company from 2001-2004; controller for the Denver Newspaper Agency in 2001; controller of the Rocky Mountain News from 1998-2000; audit and consulting services manager from 1992-1998; and internal audit senior from 1990-1992. Mike began his professional career as an audit senior with the Cincinnati office of Ernst & Young.

Mike graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a bachelor of science degree in accounting and is a certified public accountant in the state of Ohio.
