New name honors Scripps family legacy for Community Fund

May 18, 2018 By Rebecca McCarter

Moved by a desire to give back to the communities whose support and loyalty brought success to his family’s company, Bob Scripps established the Scripps Howard Foundation’s Community Fund in 1998 with a generous gift.

To commemorate his abiding concern for others and his spirit of generosity, we are renaming our Community Fund in honor of Bob Scripps, the late grandson of E.W. Scripps and the Foundation’s first donor.

During his lifetime, Bob made regular gifts to the Fund with only one instruction: Help people who need it most. Over the years, the Fund has improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of people whether by teaching children to read, providing adults with training for better jobs or offering domestic violence survivors a safe haven. Moving forward, the Bob Scripps Community Fund will continue to honor this wish through community investments that drive lasting change.
