Partners in preparation

We’re helping journalism educators infuse entrepreneurship and social media into academic programs, preparing others for careers in administration, and honoring those who teach and lead the nation’s journalism and mass communication schools with excellence.

Since 2012, the Scripps Howard Foundation and the Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University annually offer up to 15 fellowships to college professors who are interested in teaching the concepts and practices of entrepreneurial journalism. The five-day institute is at the Phoenix campus in January; the application deadline is in October.

The Foundation has endowed chairs at journalism schools nationwide to bring renowned professionals into college classrooms to share industry trends and best practices. In recent years, through a partnership with the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, we award stipends to faculty members for immersive, hands-on experiences at media outlets.

Since 2007, the Foundation has partnered with Louisiana State University to offer an expenses-paid Academic Leadership Academy to prepare educators and professionals for administrative roles in communication schools. Apply by Dec. 31 for the week-long academy in June.
