Childhood literacy is the common thread that connects community giving in all Scripps markets. Through the "If you give a child a book ..." campaign and other initiatives, the Foundation is committed to closing the word gap for children across the country so they can have the tools and information they need to reach their potential.

The Scripps Howard Foundation supports programs that drive change in communities served by The E.W. Scripps Company, thanks to funds established by the company and Bob Scripps.

The Foundation provides support and funding for current and developing journalists through internships and grants.

Grant support is available for multimedia education, First Amendment causes, career development, media research, professional organizations and programs that foster diversity, ethics support for a free press and entrepreneurial enterprise in the communications profession. The journalism fund also supports an environmental fellowship program and leadership institute.
