WFTS signed on the air in 1981, as an independent broadcast station, the call letters standing for “Family Television Station.” WFTS was acquired by Scripps five years later. Since then, the station has consistently earned prestigious awards recognizing its journalistic achievement, repeatedly awarded the coveted "Best Newscast" distinction from the Society of Professional Journalists. The Investigators unit has won multiple Emmy awards and was the winner of a national IRE Award in 2005. |
